There may have been delays to the start of recreational sales in the state of New Jersey, but the wait is now over. Residents of New Jersey can now look forward to making their first purchase of recreational cannabis in stores within the next week.
New Jersey state Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) made announcement that seven Alternative Treatment Centers (ATC): Curaleaf, Verano, GTI, Acreage, TerrAscend, Columbia Care and Ascend Wellness, will be issued licenses to sell recreational marijuana as early as April 21.
Despite the delays experienced over the past weeks, the seven alternative treatment centers have now been cleared to sell adult-use recreational cannabis across 13 different locations within the state of New Jersey. These treatment centers can be found in Bellmawr, Edgewater Park, Bloomfield, Paterson, and Phillipsburg and Maplewood, Rochelle Park, Elizabeth, Lawrence, Williamstown and Egg Harbor. As of April 21, the decision to begin recreational marijuana sales is up to the discretion of the Alternative Treatment Centers.
"New Jersey Adult-Use Recreational Marijuana
Sales Start April 21st"
New Jersey CRC guidelines, allow for registered patients to purchase up to 3.0 ounces of medical marijuana from Alternative Treatment Centers (ATC) every 30 days. Once treatment centers officially begin recreational sales Thursday, adults 21 and older will be able to purchase up to 1.0 ounce of recreational cannabis per transaction.
To acquire licensing for recreational cannabis sales within New Jersey, the CRC requires that treatment centers ensure the inflow of recreational buyers won’t affect access of cannabis for patients. The authorized treatment centers agreed to reserve parking spaces for patients as well as keep hours specifically for patients only. If Alternative Treatment Centers fail to provide adequate access to patients and fall short of ensuring supply for medical needs, based New Jersey statute and regulations, treatment centers will be fined $10,000 per day and, if access or supply to patients is not corrected within seven days, CRC staff recommend the suspension of license privileges.
Not all licensed treatment centers will begin recreational sales on Thursday. Due to the steep fines and penalties for failing to ensure supply and access to patients.; some treatment centers may not begin recreational sales immediately to avoid running out of cannabis. The fear is the licensed ATC might meet state requirements, but not be ready to handle the traffic of people on this upcoming weed holiday.
The Cannabis Regulatory Commission has stated it will provide a list of locations that will open for recreational sales April 21st on its website as soon as the alternative treatment centers make their decisions.
